KURUVA ISLAND(WAYANAD) on 13-Sep-2009

KURUVA ISLAND has 2 Entrances, One is @ Mysore-Mananthavady Road & another entrance is near Pulpally.

Route 1 -> [SH33]Mysore - Hampapura - Nagarahole Checkpost(Thalassery Baveli Road) - Bavali - KURUVA ISLAND -> 95KMS ~ 100 KMS
This Route will take you the entrance of the KURUVA ISLAND in Mysore - Mananthavady Road

Route 2-> Mysore - Nanjangud - Gundlupet - Sulthan Bathery - Pulpally - KURUVA ISLAND -> 160 KMS ~ 165 KMS
This Route will take you the entrance of the KURUVA ISLAND which is near to Pulpally, Kerala


If you are going to See only KURUVA ISLAND from Mysore i will recommend the Route 1.

If you are planning to visit some more places in Wayanad, you can use the Breakdown info provided below & reach KURUVA ISLAND from Sulthan Bathery.

Break down for the Route 2:

Mysore - Nanjangud -> 25 KMS
Road condition -> Road is not good from mysore till Nanjanagud
Driving directions -> Mysore - Nanjangud(Infact i will say Mysore - OOTY) road is very Accident Prone, Pls be careful while driving especially in night time.

Nanjangud - Gundlupet -> 37 Kms
Road condition -> Good
Driving directions -> After reaching Gundlupet,U should take a right deviation to reach Sulthan Bathery, if you dont get it, ask some one


Gundlupet - Bandipur Forest - Muthanga Forest- Sulthan Bathery -> 56 KMS
Road condition -> OK
Driving directions -> While going in Bandipur & Muthanga forest you may encounter some Deers, Elephants etc.. if you are keen to see, go SLOW

Sulthan Bathery - Pulpally -> 28 Kms
Road condition -> Good
Driving directions -> After reaching Sulthan Bathery,U should take a right deviation to reach Pulpally, if you dont get it, ask some one

Pulpally - Kuruva Island -> 18 ~ 20 Kms
Road condition -> OK till 10~12 kms, after that when you enter the FOREST ROAD its WORST, you'll have to drive in 1st/2nd gear.
Driving directions -> In Pulpally ask locals about how to reach KURUVA ISLAND, they will guide you thru the road. While driving, keep looking for a MUD ROAD to your right side, there will a board indicating the direction to KURUVA ISLAND, take right deviation there & experience the worst driving exp of you life to reach Kuruva Island

Just after the Nagarahole Checkpost @ the Coorg End, on da way to KUTTA this was the Situation.



From Kutta, you can go to Wayanad District. This is the JUNCTION in KUTTA, from where you enter WAYANAD District which belongs to KERALA.



on da way to IRPU.. Road is worst.. that too when it rains.. i hate coorg roads...

one more proof for the above made statement...

PitStop in Nagarahole Forest...

Saw a very NICE Bison(KADEMME) in Nagarahole, while coming back to mysore.

Route : Mysore-Hunsur-Murkal-Nagarahole-Kutta-Irpu falls

Total Distance : 110 kms(Mysore - Irpu falls)

Breakdown for the above route:

Mysore - Hunsur -> 45 Kms
Road condition -> very good.
Driving directions -> ----

Hunsur - Murkal -> 23~24 Kms
Road condition -> good.
Driving directions -> From Hunsur take HD Kote Road, after 8~9 Kms, u'll have to take a right deviation which leads to MURKAL(ELEPHANT CAMP), from here Road is very nice, but u'll have to bare so many unwanted Bumpy Humps.

Murkal - Nagarahole -> 20~21 Kms
Road condition -> very good.
Driving directions -> ----

Nagarahole - Kutta - Irpu falls -> 18~20 kms
Road condition -> Fair.
Driving directions -> After exiting Nagarahole checkpost(@ otherend, coorg), drive for 2~3 kms u'll get 2 roads, if u go straight you will go to KUTTA from there you can reach IRPU Falls, Right deviation will lead to GONIKOPPA. From kutta its easy to reach irpu but roads are in very bad conditon, pls take help of locals if u feel u couldn find the road to irpu.

Alternatre route -> Mysore-Hunsur-Titimathi-Ponnampet-Srimangala-Irpu Falls.

Important Instruction:
2 wheelers are not allowed inside Nagarahole Wildlife Sanctury.
If you dont have 4 wheeler you cannot reach irpu via Nagarahole, you will have to take the Alternate route specified above.
